NYSC “Mouth Padlock”, Rule is a Ruse, By Adeola Soetan

So, some ex radical student activists, or so-called, condemning the lady corper for speaking out against the terrible Tinubu regime, didn’t know that all the talk talk & protests they organized in school for better welfare & academic conditions of students were against the school “mouth padlock” rules? I’m surprised.

From the matriculation oath you signed to the university statues, protest without authorities permission is illegal by their own rules. That’s why every query to activists is always having the monotonous statement of “organizing and participating in unapproved protest…”. In defiance of the school’s graveyard laws, we always relied on the fundamental rights to assembly, to protest & protect our dignity as humans. our academic and welfare.

I hope these pro-graveyard peace current & ex student activists and others in their group do know that squatting and cooking are not allowed in the halls of residence. But for the reality of economic survival, we broke all those unrealistic university rules, if not, many ex activists and students generally wouldn’t have economic power to graduate at all. How many of today’s professors, lawyers, doctors, journalists etc as students particularly from those villages and village towns could afford not to cook insect infested beans & decayed yam in the halls of residence as students?

The same slavish rules are imposed on workers, but if those rules were not broken, there won’t be any independent workers protest without employers permission.

I’m disappointed that some activists are defending the NYSC “Padlock Your Mouth” Rules as against the fundamental constitutional rights of citizens to express themselves. That’s a very terrible stand that can only make a big graveyard of the nation with imposed morbid silence over the nation.

What should concern all discerning citizens is, did the lady corper lie or saying the truth about the terrible state of the nation under a terrible president? If it’s true, so be it.. For me, she’s very correct since we say it and hear such expression everyday.

Some Nigerians don’t know what they want exactly beyond mouthing radical change for the country with their dancing mouths but deep in their thoughts, they love their chains. . The same you would indict the youth for being docile and not protesting bad governance , the same you will suddenly become Yeye nonsensical duplicitous moralists blaming the youth when they just act small. Quite laughable.

There’s nothing wrong in a citizen calling out her president for giving pains and economic hardship to the citizens contrary to his campaign promises.. Describing Tinubu as a terrible president is a matter of semantic and her choice of words. Most Nigerians daily describe the president in unprintable words and with curses as the hardship gets harder while Tinubu & Co continue to enjoy better.. Tinubu himself had described previously failed presidents & military heads of state in his choice of words.

Terrible means to be “exceptionally bad or displeasing”. Is Tinubu not, by his reputation and by governance? Go to the market, where prices soar daily, schools where fees are increased, bus stops where transport fares jump regularly and go to Ola Sheu, Amala Skye Bank, Iya ila and other Amala joints where you will pay in tripple to feed to know whether the youth corper is right or wrong.
