The Osun State Chapter of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement has submitted a formal petition to the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, demanding justice over the alleged assault and robbery of one of its members, Comrade Samson Tola, by operatives of the corps.
According to the petition, the incident took place on Friday, May 9, in Iwoye, Egbedore Local Government Area, where Tola was reportedly accosted, brutalised, and dispossessed of personal belongings by Amotekun officers.
Titled “Petition for Investigation and Justice: Unlawful Assault and Robbery by Amotekun Officers”, the document was signed by Lijofi Victor.
The Movement called for a thorough investigation into the incident, disciplinary action against the officers involved, and compensation for the victim.
“We humbly submit this petition seeking your immediate attention to a disturbing incident involving Amotekun officers and our member, Comrade Samson Tola,” the statement read.
Victor recounted that Tola was returning from his farm when he was stopped by Amotekun operatives, who allegedly claimed to be responding to a community dispute involving a local monarch and a family over a burial matter. Despite offering no clear reason for his arrest, they briefly detained and later released him.
However, the situation escalated after Tola recorded a short video of the encounter. According to Victor, the officers later ambushed him at an isolated location, beat him severely, and attempted to seize his phone. During the attack, the sum of N20,000 reportedly went missing from his pocket, his cutlass was taken, and his neck accessory was damaged.
Tola subsequently reported the matter at the Awo Police Station and provided a statement detailing the incident.
The petition demands the return of the missing items, adequate compensation for Tola, and the implementation of safeguards to prevent future abuses by the Amotekun Corps.
“We believe that justice and accountability are crucial to preserving public confidence in the Amotekun Corps,” Victor concluded, demanding swift action from the security outfit’s leadership.
