TIB Kano Condemns Police Abduction, Brutalization of Corps Member Zakariyya Kabeer

PRESS RELEASE
Take It Back Movement (TIB) – Kano State Chapter

IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF ZAKARIYYA KABEER GWAGWARWA

The Take It Back Movement (TIB), Kano State Chapter, condemns in the strongest terms the unlawful abduction and continued detention of Zakariyya Kabeer Gwagwarwa, an indigene of Kano and corps member currently serving his NYSC in Katsina.

Zakariyya was abducted by the police in Katsina on the directive of Hassan Hussain, Member of the House of Representatives representing Nassarawa Federal Constituency, Kano State. His only so-called “offense” was a harmless Facebook post in which he stated: “Company Pampers must go Sabuwar Nassarawa 2027 Insha Allahu.” This statement contained no derogatory or inciting remarks whatsoever.

After days of searching, Zakariyya was only seen in court today. Shockingly, instead of granting him freedom, a corrupt judge carried out a kangaroo trial and adjourned the case for another two weeks. This unlawful delay not only violates his fundamental human rights but also threatens his NYSC program, which is critical for his future.

To make matters worse, credible reports indicate that Zakariyya has been brutalized in detention, with disturbing rumors of his arm being broken by the incompetent police. His family has been left traumatized, with his sister seen crying for help at Freedom Radio Kano.

The Take It Back Movement (TIB) demands the immediate and unconditional release of Zakariyya Kabeer Gwagwarwa. We call on all well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders to rise against this injustice and ensure that no Nigerian is victimized for exercising their constitutional right to freedom of expression.

An injury to one is an injury to all.

Signed:
Comrade Zubair A. Zubair
Kano State Coordinator
Take It Back Movement (TIB)
