The Take It Back Movement Demands Immediate Release of Comrade Elliot Gbaminido

The Take It Back Movement strongly condemns the unlawful arrest and detention of Comrade Elliot Gbaminido by officers of the Lagos State Police Command at Panti.

This development is linked to the ongoing crisis surrounding the family of the late Chief Onamade of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos. In the wake of his passing, rather than grieving and seeking unity, the first wife of the deceased, Mrs. Yinka Onamade, has resorted to weaponizing the police against members of her own extended family.

On a baseless petition alleging theft of family property and breach of peace, two of the deceased’s brothers, Mr. Seyi Onamade and Mr. Femi Onamade were arrested by officers from Panti and held for three days. These accusations are clearly unfounded and designed to intimidate and harass.

When Mr. Femi Onamade contacted the Take It Back Movement for assistance, Comrade Elliot Gbaminido acted as a surety for his release, a lawful and humanitarian act. Shockingly, Comrade Elliot has now been illegally arrested and detained by officers from Panti led by SP Mabel, Mr. Kayode, and Inspector David, who claim he must produce the individuals he stood for.

We must make it abundantly clear that, according to the legal representatives of Mr. Femi and Mr. Seyi Onamade, this case has been officially transferred to Alagbon and is already before a competent court of law. The Panti Division of the Lagos Police has no jurisdiction in this matter and no legal basis to arrest a surety, especially in a case already under judicial review.

This is a blatant abuse of power, a violation of due process, and a clear example of the continued harassment of ordinary citizens using state security apparatus.

We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Elliot Gbaminido.

We say NO to illegal arrests.
We say NO to police oppression.
We say YES to justice and due process.

Signed:
Comrade Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek
Lagos State Coordinator, Take It Back Movement
