The Take It Back Movement (TIB), Edo State Chapter, has called on lovers of justice, human rights defenders, civil society organisations and concerned Nigerians to join its planned protest against police brutality, extortion, unlawful detention and abuse of power.
The movement said the protest would hold on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. at the Museum Ground, Ring Road, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
In a statement signed by the TIB Coordinator in Edo State, Morguana, the chapter urged Nigerians to move beyond complaints and take action against abuses by security personnel.
“Let us stop complaining and start taking action,” the statement said.
The movement listed police brutality, police extortion, fabrication of charges, unlawful detention and abuse of power among the issues it wants authorities to address.
According to TIB, such issues should not remain topics discussed only in homes and on social media, stressing that Nigerians must actively demand accountability and reform.
“This is the time to stand up and demand accountability,” the movement said.
TIB called on “all lovers of justice, human rights defenders, concerned citizens, civil society organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians” to participate in the protest.
They also urged participants to attend in native attire, while stressing that those without native clothing should come in any decent outfit.
“If you do not have native attire, come in whatever decent clothing you have. The most important thing is: COME!” the statement said.
The movement said continued complaints without active participation would not bring the desired changes, urging citizens to take responsibility for demanding reforms.
“If we continue to complain but refuse to participate when action is required, then our complaints will remain unanswered,” it said.
TIB also declared that it was not seeking to merely assist in solving the problems but wanted citizens to become active participants in the struggle for justice and accountability.
“We are not here to be helpers; we are here to be part of the solution,” the movement said.
The movement is demanding a police institution that respects the Nigerian Constitution, the Police Act and the fundamental rights of citizens.
It also called for greater accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, insisting that the institution must be answerable to the people it serves.
The movement concluded its mobilisation with the slogan, “AGBONIKA MUST GO!” while describing police reform as a collective responsibility.
“Let us stand together peacefully and lawfully,” the statement reads.
The protest is expected to focus on demands for justice, accountability and police reform in Edo State.
