Take It Back Movement Condemns “Thuggish Behaviour” of EFCC Operatives in Lagos Hotel Assault Video, Demands Immediate Prosecution

The Take It Back Movement has unleashed a fiery response to the viral video capturing EFCC operatives engaging in “thuggish behaviour” and brutally assaulting a woman, who was wearing a nightgown, slapping her repeatedly.

Micheal Olasoji, the head of the Human Rights Department of Take It Back Movement, responded to the incident with a firm declaration that such barbaric acts would not be tolerated. Demanding immediate prosecution of the agents involved, Olasoji decried the “culture of impunity” that enables such abuse of power within the EFCC, and emphasized the movement’s unwavering dedication to eradicating corruption and rights violations in the country. “We must put an end to these brutalities, and hold accountable those who perpetrate them,” Olasoji asserted, “for only then can we begin to build a truly just society.”

Olusoji went on to blast the EFCC for their ongoing pattern of rights violations, calling the assault an act of criminality. He demanded immediate action against the agents, urging the government to investigate and prosecute those responsible.

“The EFCC has consistently displayed unprofessionalism, violating basic human rights and disregarding the sanctity of the law. To assault a defenseless citizen is an outright criminal act. We demand, with urgency, that the government and President take swift action against these offending EFCC agents.”

He demanded that thorough investigations be undertaken, with those accountable for this vile display of brutality facing justice. Olusoji warned that the EFCC cannot be permitted to evolve into a danger to society and implored a recommitment to fundamental human rights principles in all its operations.

“Proper investigations must be conducted, and those responsible for this heinous display of abuse must be brought to justice. The EFCC must never be allowed to become a greater threat to the society it serves. We call for a restoration of basic human rights principles in all their operations.”, he added.

A footage had on Thursday surfaced showing some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) assaulting guests and staff at the Annex and Regional hotels in Isashi, Lagos.

A Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the moment when the operatives forcibly entered a hotel room and physically assaulted a woman, who was wearing a nightgown, slapping her repeatedly.

The operatives didn’t know that CCTV was in the room, as the five personnel ransacked the room after driving the young woman out of the room.

The incident has raised concerns about the use of excessive force by the EFCC operatives.

Another footage circulating online shows how the operatives of the EFCC were firing their weapons sporadically within the hotel premises, causing alarm and terrorising the innocent guests who were present at the hotel to relax.
