TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT BAUCHI DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF DR. ABUBAKAR AHMAD, VICTIM OF POLITICAL INTIMIDATION

The Take It Back Movement, Bauchi State Chapter, is deeply concerned by the arrest and detention of Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, a lecturer at the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State who was recently remanded in prison following a complaint filed by a politically exposed individual.

Dr. Ahmad is being accused of defamation and criminal intimidation over a Facebook post that allegedly criticized a video involving the complainant.

The charges stem not from a criminal act but from an exercise of his constitutional right to free expression, which we believe is now being weaponized to silence dissent and intimidate critical voices.

We find it unacceptable that a lecturer and law abiding citizen is being targeted, harassed, and imprisoned without regard for democratic norms and civil liberties.

We, therefore, demand:

Immediate release of Dr. Abubakar Ahmad on bail,

An end to the use of courts to settle personal and political grievances,

Respect for the right to free speech as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution,

Independent oversight into the abuse of criminal complaints as a tool for intimidation.

We are in contact with Dr. Ahmad’s legal counsel and his family and will be closely monitoring the legal process. We call on all rights groups, civil society actors, and the media to join us in demanding justice and amplifying Dr. Ahmad’s story.

The Take It Back Movement stands firm against tyranny whether from state actors or private individuals.

We will continue to advocate for justice, accountability, and the protection of all citizens’ rights.
